Welcoming city adventurers, thrill seekers, foodies, social butterflies, school groups, digital nomads, gap-yearers, daydreamers and deep sleepers, all under one roof.
The Fort is a coming together of like-minded souls, slap bang in the middle of York.
The Fort opened its doors in 2011 with a unique take on the boutique hostel experience. Inspired by our own travels, we wanted to create somewhere that was much more than a place to get your head down. Our design-led rooms are well-equipped for the modern traveller, with luxury bedding, free superfast WiFi, shared chill out areas, secure lockers, laundry, mod con kitchens, original artworks and 24/7 access. Outside, nobody is closer to York’s must-see sights and sounds. York Minster, Bettys, the city walls and the UK’s favourite shopping streets are all a hop, skip and jump away. By night, the party comes to you, as our on-site bars and social scene are the beating heart of the area, giving you plenty of opportunity to live like a local and meet your fellow guests.
Stay in comfort, whatever your preferred travel style. With 60 beds spread across private rooms and spacious shared dorms with 6-8 beds, The Fort is flexible enough to accommodate large groups yet always be considerate of solo travellers. Our themed rooms are inspired by York’s cultural past and its creative underbelly, breaking away from the bland canvases of other budget stays.
Bunk beds for best friends and solo travellers
Super stylish without the price tag
A little luxury, a lot of privacy
We’re less than a 10 minute walk from york station. Turn left out of the main station building and follow the road round, heading towards York Minster. Cross Skeldergate bridge, turning right at Lendal and you’ll soon see The Ivy and Bettys. Turn left at the square onto Stonegate where you’ll find Kennedy’s Bar and The Fort.
If you’re arriving into Manchester Airport, there’s a direct train to York. Leeds Bradford airport is a bus journey or taxi ride away.
If you must drive, there’s plenty of car parks nearby. Please note that York city centre is pedestrianised during the day so it will involve a brief walk.
It’s closer than you think, taking less than 2hrs door-to-door by train!
