Saturday & Sunday, 1st-2nd February 2020
Put your parka over your party dress and join us for York Ice Trail this weekend.
A total of 40 frosty creations are waiting to be discovered, all inspired by a theme of ‘Fantastical Fiction & Fairy Tales.’
As always, we’re proud to be one of the businesses sponsoring their own custom installation. International ice sculpture champions Glacial Art have been let loose to a brief of a winter wonderland in the style Tim Burton, so expect to see his trademark eccentricity on show as we reimagine family favourite Dumbo like never before. The sculpture has been many months in the making, with original sketches first seen in the Summer.
Having got an early preview of what’s to come, we’re particularly excited for you to see the likes of Guy Fawkes, Ewoks, Sonic the Hedgehog and the frozen pillories that will grace York’s streets. There’s always photo opportunities galore, so make sure you check out the official hashtag: #YorkIceTrail20
If you’re wondering where to start, the full list of sculptures can be found in this handy York Ice Trail map and below.
In addition to the trail, you’ll also find live ice carvings on Parliament Street. Glacial Art will be working their magic as they craft a bewitching sculpture from scratch and you too can put your own skills to the test at the Carving Wall.
At Kennedy’s, we’ll be breaking out the mulled wine and winter Pimms for one last weekend. They’ll also be our usual winter warmers on the food menu, including Klub ‘K’ burgers, loaded nachos, sumptuous steaks and buttermilk fried chicken & fries.
Should you find yourself near Skeldergate, Middletons Hotel is promising to put on its own enchanting experience complete with fire pits, owls, ales, shire horses, and a chance to win tickets to the Making of Harry Potter Warner Brothers’ Studio Tour.
York Ice Trail is one of our favourite weekends of the year and with 17,000 visitors expected to take part it seems we’re not the only ones.
With so much going on, the big question is: Can you tick all 40 installations of the list?
